The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is looking for a Community Service Officer (CSO) to provide public information and administrative support to uniformed personnel in the Sheriff's Office, Patrol Division.
The CSO is an unarmed, uniformed position that supports the Sheriff’s Office by assisting the public and providing a variety of services which includes assisting sworn deputies with some of their more routine duties. This work is done in one of several secure Sheriff’s facilities and involves significant contact with the public to supply or gather information by telephone or in person, provide law enforcement related services, take police reports, and assist law enforcement personnel in administrative functions.
The Sheriff's Office is seeking individuals who enjoy working with the public and thrive in a fast-paced work environment. Competitive candidates will have strong administrative support/ office skills, outstanding communication and customer service skills, excellent multitasking abilities, proficiency with computers, and a desire to work in a law enforcement environment. Previous experience in a law enforcement agency is preferred.
The eligibility list established from this recruitment may be used to fill additional vacancies in the Sheriff's Office.
This is a civilian classification that does not require full certification under the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.
Testing is a requirement for this position, testing will be done all online. Applicants will be allotted a time frame in which to log onto the testing module and complete the test and must do so in order to move forward in the recruitment process. IMPORTANT INFORMATION
This is not a sworn position that requires a complete Statement of Personal History (SPH).
Only those applicants selected will need to submit the SPH. The SPH is due 10 calendar days AFTER you have been notified. Applicants will receive instructions from the Department of Human Resources or the Sheriff's Office on how to login to the electronic SPH.
Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
- A minimum of two (2) years of related experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills to perform the responsibilities of this position.
- Must have customer service experience, including serving a diverse population.
- Must have experience doing data entry in a computerized system.
- Must have experience developing and/or writing reports containing comprehensive and detailed information.
- Ability to work in an environment requiring flexibility due to rapidly changing priorities.
- Experience handling confidential information and materials.
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays, nights and be subject to call back as required/scheduled.
- Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test
- Must pass an extensive background investigation, which will include national or state fingerprint records check.
- Driving is required for County business on a regular basis or to accomplish work. Incumbents must possess a valid driver's license, and possess and maintain an acceptable driving record throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the County's driving policy
Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
- Experience working in a law enforcement or judicial environment.
- Experience providing customer service in a noisy and busy environment where there are many distractions.
- A high level of experience explaining compliance issues, department regulations and policies to customers/citizens.
- Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel
Other Qualifications:
- Possession of a Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) Certification is required within 3 months of employment.
